Reviews
The Dome offers a luxurious and atmospheric experience in one of Edinburgh’s most beautiful buildings. It’s not the cheapest option in town, but for a special occasion—or just to enjoy the stunning architecture—it’s well worth a visit. Ideal for afternoon tea, festive dinners, or glamorous drinks.
We came for an evening meal after previously visiting for bar snacks and drinks. The menu is small but offers a lovely selection. We both started with the haggis, which was delicious. I followed with the venison, and my husband had the chicken — both cooked perfectly and full of flavour. For dessert, he chose the banana and custard tart, which he thoroughly enjoyed, while I opted for a coffee to finish. All in all, a fabulous evening. The service was excellent throughout — warm, attentive, and professional. Highly recommended.
Monumental from the outside, spectacular on the inside – The Dome never disappoints and is one of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh! The restaurant is impressive with its service and stunning interior. It is large and accessible with a selection of rooms for different dining experiences, plenty of seating options, a substantial bar, private dining area, and a sophisticated but relaxed atmosphere. This historical landmark was originally built in the 18th century, and has been beautifully maintained with original Georgian architecture. The interior exudes decadence with beautiful bronze doors, decorative marble floors, crystal chandeliers, high ceilings, fluted columns, and a spectacular glass dome – its namesake - as the centerpiece. The service was exceptional, consistently warm, attentive and professional. Our server, Wictoria, was delightful and incredibly thorough, and provided us with the perfect experience through menu explanations, wine recommendations and anticipating drink refills and dessert. Everything was perfectly timed, the table and cutlery were cleared between courses, and water refilled regularly. The food was absolutely amazing with a comfort food meets fine dining feel. The portion sizes were good, beautifully plated, and everything we ordered was fresh, delicious and prepared to perfection. The menu was small, but they offered a great selection of items to choose from as well as a prix fixe menu option for pre dinner dining, and the price for the quality and experience was excellent. They also offer a great selection of wine and cocktails. We had the charcuterie and cheese board to start, tomato soup, free range chicken breast, steak pie with mashed potatoes and baked vanilla cheesecake with coconut ice cream. I LOVED the steak pie and the cheesecake! Highly recommend for the food, service, décor and experience!!
The venue and music are wonderful. Great for afternoon tea, for reading a book, have a pint with a friend or for a morning coffee. The service is amazing.. It's good for a business discussion as well or just to bring a friend on a rainy day. I don't recommend coming here in large groups. Overall a lovely location that I return to every time I visit Edinburgh.
Really lovely place to dine in Edinburgh. Oysters were fresh, and the muscles in coconut sauces was amazing!! The sauce was the best thing I had that night. Steak was basic the presentation was very lacking. Just a piece of tomato on the plate, I felt they could have done better there, but my dates plate looked lovely, he had the veal. Lovely staff and atmosphere.
